Bäckström/Ovechkin (C92) Lapa:
Description: This is a big mid curve with an open face.
Advantages: This is the stickhandling curve. Toe drags, dekes, and straight up dangling will be easier with the P92, because you can cup the puck better. The P92 is also great for snap shots because of the deep mid curve. The open face also makes it easier to raise the puck when you are in tight close to the net. Lastly, this curve is great for saucer passes.
Drawbacks: The mid curve and open face makes backhand passing and shooting difficult.
Bottom Line: If stickhandling and quick snap shots are what you’re looking for, the P92 is for you.
This is still the most popular blade pattern in hockey. The rockered base of the blade allows you to keep the puck toward the toe and lift the heel off the ice in order to load the blade. Whether you’re going high or low, with your hands in the right spot out in front of the puck, you will look the same to the goalie.
Ovechkin (C08) Lapa:
Description: This is the legal version of the old CCM Crazy Ovi curve. It is a mid curve with an open face and a round toe.
Advantages: The P08 curve is as unique as OVI himself – it is great for technical puck handling and sniping water bottles.
Drawbacks: The mid curve and open face makes backhand passing and shooting difficult. Snap shots are a bit more difficult to do as well because of the big curve. Bottom Line: If stickhandling and hard wrist shots are your thing, the P08 is just what you are looking for.
